Many women like Anitha have dropped out of college or have discontinued their education due to unavoidable circumstances, and she has a message for them. “Instead of sitting idle, women should utilize their time to do something useful. I’m sure you can spend at least two hours a day on yourself, doing what you really like. We need to overcome these challenges to bring about a change in our lives.” From 9am to 5pm, Sahana works as a tele calling executive at a real estate company. After 5pm, she switches to her data entry job for a couple of hours to earn extra money- all of this to pursue the degree of her dreams and provide financial support for her family. An online degree has given her the opportunity to study while earning. “My father is a farmer, and mother is a homemaker. My family’s financial burden lies with me. I have a younger brother who is in 10th grade. Along with paying my college fees, I’m funding his education too. Thanks to MUJ, the online B.Com degree is very affordable and I’m able to manage my expenses well,” Sahana says. Born and brought up in Krishnarajpet, Karnataka, Sahana chose to pursue an online degree as it is recognized at par with on-campus degrees. Her aim is to work with a multinational company and settle with a good salary. She also wants to enroll her brother in a good university. “Girls residing in small towns and villages are generally forced to get married if they are not well-educated. Education is important for every woman, and it helps build trust and self-confidence. Your family will be proud of your achievements and allow you to live a free life. A degree also gives financial and personal independence, which is very important for today’s women. This International Women’s Day, I urge all women to get a degree to become independent.” “I was married off at a young age and couldn’t continue my studies further. After my 12th grade, I couldn’t study for over 5 years. But I was very passionate about academic and wanted to fulfill my career aspirations,” says Khatija from Maharashtra’s Dapoli town, who is pursuing her online BBA from Manipal University Jaipur. MBA in Healthcare Management vs Paramedical courses: Key Differences Healthcare management is perhaps one of the most in-demand job sectors at the current time. It offers professionals a way to enter the healthcare market and enhances their skills as management employees. Apart from this, professionals can also work in the administration sector of pharma, managing patients, doctors, and so on. However, not everyone is aware of the benefits of pursuing an MBA degree in healthcare management. As a result, many people prefer to opt for other paramedical courses in radiology, nursing, business administration, and so on, to pursue a career in healthcare management and relevant paths. If you think that a healthcare management MBA and a paramedical course will offer you the same exposure, you are highly wrong. Both these lines are poles apart, having differences that you can’t even imagine. Before you choose any career path, it would be better if you knew about them in detail. So, here we have discussed the major differences between paramedical and healthcare management degrees that every professional should be aware of before making any major career decision in their lives. Overview of MBA in healthcare management As the name suggests, a healthcare management degree will help a professional become expert in various management and administrative jobs related to the healthcare industry. It can be regarding maintaining and managing electronic health records or forming collaborations with various vendors to get medical supplies and pharmaceutical port products right on time. As a healthcare management professional, you will have a lot of responsibility for overseeing and managing various operations outside the medical department. In fact, the services that you want the healthcare organization to offer to the patients will also depend on how well you are with your managerial role and responsibilities. Therefore, every professional needs to have a proper management degree in healthcare to understand the practices and challenges they can face at every step. If the management is not proper or there are huge gaps in the strategies, not only will the operations be affected, but you won’t be able to provide the best experience to the patients and other people. For example, nursing is a type of paramedical program where students learn about medical science but not in an advanced manner as that of doctors. Similarly, medical equipment operators opt for other paramedical courses such as radiology. They need to learn more about human body parts, their working, structural and functional aspects, and so on. No matter what, these professionals do not have to engage in a proper medical program, which is primarily one of the benefits of opting for a paramedical course. Unlike professionals having MBA degrees in healthcare management, paramedical professionals won’t have to focus solely on management and administrative departments in a healthcare organization. Instead, they can opt for career options partly related to health and medical science. Following is a brief explanation of subjects professionals must study in paramedical courses. How to balance online learning and personal/work life – Useful tips from MUJ’s online students Balancing work or personal life and online learning is essential because it allows individuals to manage their time effectively and avoid burnout. Without balance, one’s personal and professional life can become overwhelming, leading to stress, decreased productivity, and a decrease in overall well-being. Moreover, online learning requires self-motivation, time-management, and discipline, all of which can be challenging to achieve without a balance in other aspects of life. To achieve a balance, individuals can start by setting clear boundaries between their work/personal life and online learning. This means dedicating specific hours to each activity, such as setting aside time for studying and completing coursework, and then using the remaining time to focus on work, family, or other personal activities. Another effective strategy is to prioritize tasks and activities based on their level of importance and urgency. This allows individuals to manage their time effectively and avoid feeling overwhelmed with the demands of work, personal life, and online learning. Online learning offers the flexibility to study at your own convenience without having to set aside your personal or professional commitments. With proper planning and scheduling, you can balance your online learning and personal life without any hassle. Here are a few useful tips from Manipal University Jaipur’s online students Author: Ayeesha Riha Batch-5, online B.Com – Manipal University Jaipur Set boundaries This is the most important thing when you take up online classes, especially when you live with your family. Activate “do not disturb” mode when you’re studying or working. Let people around you know your study and work time. This way, they will give you your space and not interrupt you now and then. Plan your schedule Pre-planning your day/week can help you stay organized, prioritize tasks, and boost productivity. It helps you get a clear picture of what needs to be done to accomplish the goals for the day. It also helps keep track of your progress. Designate a study space Find a place where you can sit and focus on your study/work without getting distracted. Keep all the essentials like a laptop, charger, notebooks, stationary, water bottle, reward snacks, etc., nearby in the study area to avoid constant interruptions, which might lead to distraction and eventually to procrastination. Manage your time Make a routine, figure out what works best for you, and stick to it. Prioritize the most important tasks from less important tasks. Bifurcate your time and set a specific time for studying, and take breaks in between; use the Pomodoro method. By developing a daily study routine and sticking to it, you can establish a habit that will trim down your decision-making process and save time. It’ll help you decide what to do exactly and when to do it without having to waste time considering your options. Take care of your health Since you’ll be sitting in a particular place for a very long period studying and/or working, it will affect your physical and mental health. To overcome this, make sure to stay physically active by going for a walk or working out. Going for a walk not only helps physically but also mentally, as it helps you clear your mind! For your mental health, make sure to take breaks in between and do what you enjoy the most for example: listening to music, journaling, having conversations with your loved ones, etc. Keep a journal I’ve found journaling to be extremely helpful in many ways, including its potential to improve your mental health. It will help you keep a check on your progress, achieve your goals, improve your writing skills, and reflects on areas for improvement. P.S.:- One of the apps that I use for journaling is “Notion”- if you don’t already know, it’s an all-in-one app that not only helps me with journaling but also with my studies, note-taking, and more. I, a girl who is passionate about being organized, have fallen in love with this app and have been addicted to it. This app keeps me motivated to get things done. These tips may not work for everyone. Try them and find what works best for you and stick to it. These are the few tips to balance online classes and personal/ work life that work for me and those that I incorporate into my life. I hope these tips will be of some benefit to you in one way or another. Then, allocate fixed time slots for each task on your schedule. This will help you plan your day, manage your time, and ensure that you don’t forget anything/work. Break down tasks: To make your online class easier to manage, break down all the tasks into small, manageable chunks. Reach out to your professor, colleague or classmates for help or advice. Make time for yourself: It’s important to make time for yourself and do activities
Role of technology in transforming healthcare delivery There is no doubt that technology has shaped several industries in different ways. Take the example of online shopping and how it has evolved over many years. Many businesses are acquiring over 65% of sales from online channels, especially e-commerce ones. Had it been a decade ago, no one would have believed that a business can own over half of the total sales through online channels. Therefore, it is evident that technology can shape the future in a way no one can comprehend. The same has happened with the healthcare industry. With new technological concepts and advancements in healthcare practices, companies, and healthcare organizations can now offer services with 100% satisfaction. In the following article, we will study the role of healthcare technology in transforming the future of the industry and the current challenges businesses have to face. Advancements in healthcare technology There have been several ways the healthcare industry has adopted technologies differently. For example, when the entire world was under lockdown due to the pandemic, the world adopted a new concept of consulting doctors: teleconsultation or telemedicine. Even after the pandemic is over and the world is gradually restoring balance, people still rely on online consultations instead of visiting doctors in person. It is how technology has revolutionized the healthcare industry and changed its future for the good. In this following section, we will learn about the top healthcare technology advancements in the industry and how these have affected the overall operations and target audience. Teleconsultation and telemedicine The term has almost become the best friend of people of all ages, backgrounds, and cultures since Covid-19. After the world witnessed a nationwide lockdown, regular people weren’t allowed to walk outside, even if that meant for a health check-up. However, people who were either affected by the infection or needed immediate medical assistance were allowed to go out and visit the doctors. Since medical assistance and healthcare services are always in need, doctors decided to offer their services and consultations over the Internet. It was either through WhatsApp calls or other online video conferencing software programs. Doctors and patients conversed with one another over video calls instead of the regular clinical chambers. It is what teleconsultation or telemedicine is: a revolutionary practice in the healthcare industry where doctors and patients can talk with one another over the Internet without requiring physical assistance. Digital health One of the major changes the healthcare industry has witnessed in recent years is digital help. The term digital health is comprehensive and multidisciplinary. It involves incorporating technology, primarily hardware and software, into healthcare practices to provide deeper and better insights into a patient’s conditions with maximum accuracy and precision. For example, heart tracking devices come with special sensors that record the heartbeats and pulse rates and display the information as connected peripheral devices. It is what digital health is all about. It is a technological concept through which traditional healthcare practices involving manual work can be transformed and automated using modern software based on technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. Similarly, the introduction of robots assisting doctors in surgeries, including complicated ones such as open heart surgeries, is also a prime example of digital health. Any modern-day healthcare practice involving technology can be termed under this category. It is considered a comprehensive and multidisciplinary practice in the healthcare industry. Artificial intelligence and IoT With the amalgamation of the 2 most advanced technologies of the decade, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, the healthcare industry can achieve miracles. For example, hospitals and clinics can rely on robotic doctors to perform surgeries instead of human doctors with the help of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. Similarly, when a patient is admitted to a hospital under comprehensive care, IoT will help remove data silos and allow collaboration between doctors from various departments at the earliest. Therefore, it is evident that artificial intelligence, when combined with the Internet of Things, can bring positive changes in the healthcare industry at so many different levels. Electronic health records or EHR One of the major areas where the healthcare industry has truly advanced and come forth by a significant distance is capturing and storing records. In earlier days, healthcare organizations such as hospitals and clinics used to store all the data sets in manual register books. They lacked clarity and organization in handling data and didn’t understand the mistakes they were committing using the manual registers. It is where the concept of electronic health record or EHR comes into play. Here all the records are captured online and stored in the databases as digital. Any person with access to the database can extract and check the data. Everything is sorted in terms of stables and columns automatically. Therefore, no one has to deal with recording the details manually in the databases and making mistakes. Apart from this, a database can typically store electronic health records of more than 10 years without deleting a single record. You may be interested to know about the benefits of an MBA for doctors and how an MBA helps doctors scale up their services. Challenges in implementing healthcare technology There is no doubt that the healthcare industry has been advancing at a rapid rate in recent years. However, the major concern of most healthcare companies and institutes is regarding the implementation of these advanced technologies in the easiest possible way. They have many challenges to overcome, and the process is not at all easy. So, let’s have a brief look at the steps the healthcare industry is taking concerning the challenges faced in technological implementation and adoption. First and foremost, not many people are aware of teleconsultation and telemedicine. Therefore, doctors and other healthcare professionals who still want to conduct consultations online need to accommodate patients’ education concerning the use of the Internet and digital technology for healthcare. Implementing artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things into healthcare technologies is challenging. Not only are there rooms for errors, but these are quite nascent. Although several robots are used to perform minute procedures, large-scale implementation is out of bounds at present. Another major area where the healthcare industry is facing challenges in technology implementation is data security for mHealth (mobile health). There is no doubt that electronic health records have solved many problems for healthcare companies, such as record storage and maintenance. However, the database can be hacked easily, and if the situation is such, the healthcare business will lose a significant amount of confidential information and private belongings. Conclusion Here, we have discussed varied technologies in the healthcare industry. Although these technologies are yet to be adopted worldwide, proper planning and risk analysis can help mitigate the chances of failures and increase success. If you want to know more about the role of technology in healthcare, enroll yourself in an online MBA in healthcare management program from Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). This course has been curated to help you understand how different technologies can be implemented in the healthcare industry for a better patient care. Key takeaways Artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things can help launch robots for performing complicated surgeries in the healthcare industry. Although the pandemic is over, telemedicine will remain in practice due to its convenience to patients and doctors. Data security is a growing concern for healthcare organizations dealing with electronic health records.

Saptarishi – Union budget, FY 2023-24 The Annual Financial Statement for the financial year 2023-24 has been presented by the Financial Minister of India on February 1st. The authorization of Parliament is necessary for the Finance Ministry to carry out any kind of spending. It is the responsibility of the Budget division of the Department of Economic Affairs within the Ministry of Finance to create this yearly financial statement, which is also known as the Union Budget. It is presented each year with details of many new and existing programs that the government is running, along with the framework for revenue and spending. This article focuses on seven distinct priorities that the government has set for the upcoming fiscal year. These priorities will shape the Indian economy in the context of the global recession, and the article also discusses how the Indian economy will respond to the most terrifying danger that can befall any economy: inflation. The Union Minister of Finance has delivered the Budget while elaborating on its aim for Amrit Kaal, which entails India celebrating 100 years of independence. It has been revealed that the central government has seven priorities, which are collectively referred to as “Saptarishi”. Let’s take a more in-depth look at the seven priorities that the government of India has set for itself, which have the potential to rescue or at the very least stabilize the economy amid a global crisis. It is vital to keep it a technology-driven, knowledge-based economy while also maintaining the Janbhagidarri (involvement of the people of the nation), among all the seven criteria that were considered. Let’s have a look at the following list of Saptarishi in more detail: 1. Reaching the last mile: Getting to the people who need it most in the economy and spreading the advantages of various programs to as many people as possible, particularly those who are struggling the most. The PM Vishwa Karma Kaushal Samman has been included in the program, which provides a forum as well as marketing for Indian crafts. Development of the pharmaceutical industry, Jal Jeevan Mission, and North East Special infrastructure development scheme have also been taken while focusing on reaching the last mile. 2. Youth power: The power of young people has been valued, and the creation of jobs via new businesses is still a possibility. This area will emphasize new businesses in the AGRI Tech industry since India has not yet produced its country’s first unicorn in the field of agricultural start-ups. The ease of setting up a business has become the primary focus. A credit guarantee program for micro, small, and medium enterprises has been approved. The budget includes initiatives to promote natural farming and fisheries. The National Book Trust, the Children’s Book Trust, and the National Book Library are all represented here, but the Eklavaya school model is the focal point. Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 is there. 3. Financial sector: Even though the global economy is moving in the direction of recession, the Indian union budget focuses on achieving 6% to 6.8% of GDP. The urban employment rate reached its lowest point in the last four years with 7.2% in 2022-23, and it is anticipated that more controlled statistics will be recorded while simultaneously producing more prospects for work in the fiscal year 2023-24. There is a discussion of establishing a national financial information register. A portion of the budget is designated to encourage women to have modest savings through the Mahila Samman Bachat Patra. Senior folks are eligible for a variety of financial incentives. 4. Green growth: Green growth is focused on the sustainable development of the economy. At every conceivable level, environmental considerations have been given top importance. Plans that are beneficial to the environment are now being considered as a means of bolstering the economy while maintaining environmentally responsible practices. These programs include PM Pranam, Waste to Wealth plants, Mishti, and Amrit Dharohar, among others. In addition to that, there is the clean plant initiative to back up this objective. The mission to produce green hydrogen is the primary objective. 5. Unleashing the potential: Over the course of the last nine years, the economy of India has grown to become the fifth biggest economy in the world. The per capita income reaches 1.97 lakh rupees. Unleashing the unrealized potential of the Indian economy so that its size may be expanded is another significant aim that seems to be included in the budget. In the future, lab-grown diamonds will be the primary emphasis, with the end goal of reducing diamond imports and increasing diamond exports. 6. Infrastructure and investments: Schemes that target investments such as focusing on building India as a worldwide center for millet production and enhancing exports of the same, are examples of “schemes that target investments.” The Sri Anna plan was centered on the same thing. A portion of the funding will be allocated to projects that will make transportation more convenient. There is also a provision to have one hundred 5G laboratories for the development of app software. 7. Inclusive development: The budget has set goals for growth that are all-encompassing. The supply of food grain, PM Kisan, and LPG circulation are examples of programs that are addressing this goal and are among the measures that have been taken to reduce inflation. In addition to education, which accounts for 2.9% of the GDP, the health care budget is 2.1% of the GDP. The formulation and dissemination of the plans show that the budget places its primary emphasis on the aforementioned seven priorities. It is a challenge for India to survive, sustain, and implement the proposed schemes when the global economy is heading toward a recession. Additionally, as responsible citizens, we should take active participation in the schemes in order to untap our true economical potential. To understand the Union budget and its importance better, one must have sound knowledge in finance. Finance is one of the most important and in-demand sectors that offers vast employment opportunities for aspiring candidates. If you’re looking to make a career in finance, consider enhancing your domain knowledge with an online MBA with finance, BFSI, or IT and Fintech as an elective from Manipal University Jaipur. This is a UGC-entitled degree program that offers you the flexibility to learn at your convenient schedule.
How 62-year-old Thomas MK is fulfilling his endless passion for learning through Online Manipal “Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death,” said Albert Einstein. If one has the willingness and the right attitude to learn something, then age becomes just a number. This quote perfectly fits our learner, Thomas MK, who is 62 years old and strongly believes that learning has no boundaries. Passionate about academics since childhood, Thomas became a teacher after completing his graduation. While he taught mathematics, he always found opportunities to learn new things from his students. After being a schoolteacher for 35 years, even post-retirement, he didn’t let go of his passion for learning and decided to pursue an online degree in data science, while he continues to take private tuition for students. Here’s a glimpse of his learning journey and experience pursuing an online degree. What is your educational background and work experience? I completed my BSc in Mathematics from Kerala and then moved to Gujarat and became a school teacher at St Mary’s School. I have been in the teaching profession for 35 years now, since 1985, and I retired only two years ago. Even before I became a teacher, I used to take private tuition to fund my studies. Why did you decide to pursue an online degree? Post retirement, I continued taking tuition at a private center. However, the classes were only in the afternoons, and I was completely free in the mornings. Unable to sit idle, I decided to take up an online degree. Since Covid, we are used to taking classes in the online mode. So, I found this degree to be an opportunity for me to learn something new and interesting from the comfort of my home. Why did you decide to pursue a master’s degree at this age? This is a common question I’ve been asked since the time I enrolled for this degree. My family members advised me to save up instead of spending it on education. But these questions don’t bother me. I have always been financially independent, and I didn’t have to ask anybody to fund my education. Considering my everlasting passion for learning, I decided to utilize my free time by pursuing an online degree. Moreover, I don’t consider taking coaching classes as a ‘job’ or ‘business’. I only want to remain active and help students. My school and college friends are now professors, some are principals at schools and some of them are working in banks. They were very appreciative of me pursuing a master’s degree at this age. Why did you choose MSc in Data Science? Even though I’m interested in computer science, I didn’t have enough knowledge about coding to pursue an MCA degree. Also, my youngest daughter pursued her MSc in Data Science and is currently working in Bangalore. I already knew about the program. So, I thought MSc data science would be a better choice. I’m very happy to pursue a degree in data science because it is an emerging domain. Even though I’m not looking to apply for a full-time job after completing my degree, I might want to be a freelancer. I basically don’t want to sit idle. How has your experience been with Online Manipal? I’m very thankful to Manipal Academy of Higher Education for giving me this opportunity to pursue my online degree. The live classes are very useful. The curriculum is up to date and the faculty members are knowledgeable. The help desk was extremely supportive. What are your other interests? When I was in school and college, computers were not popular, and they were not part of our syllabus. Only computer courses were available, and they were very expensive. There were no IT courses and hardly any engineering colleges at that time. So, we had to either choose a BSc or BA. Therefore, after completing my BSc, I was looking for jobs and I happened to become a teacher. However, I was curious to improve my computer skills. At that time, I only knew MS Office. One day, my wife told me that MS Office is a very basic computer skill that many are aware of. I took this as a challenge and wanted to improve my knowledge about computers. With my limited knowledge of computers, I came up with a database program through Excel. I began studying Excel Visual Basic Analysis (VBA). I came up with my own customized program and user interface, which became popular in the school I was teaching. What is your aim in life? My aim in life is to become a computer expert. Today, children know how to use computers and as their teacher, I thought I should grow with them. I realized that I have the potential of becoming a computer expert. What is your message to people who think age is a barrier to pursuing education? If your health and financial status are not a barrier, then there is no boundary for learning. I never felt that I’m old and that I should stop learning. People will always be judgmental about your actions. I turned a deaf ear to people who questioned why I decided to pursue an online degree at the age of 62. For instance, when I was learning Excel VBA, my friends who were programmers told me that I cannot get anything out of Excel. But I proved them wrong. I strongly believe that age is just a number. Conclusion For many, retirement is seen as a transition that opens doors to new opportunities. For those who have love for learning, online education is a great opportunity to explore as they can earn a degree or upskill from the comfort of their homes. Online education also breaks financial barriers, as they are more affordable. Learning at an older age can be seen as a great opportunity to continue contributing to society.
